Continuing with its polls sops, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Sunday gave nod to grant Government job to the eligible next of kin of employees, on two years extension beyond 58 years, on compassionate ground if they die in harness as per existing Compassionate Appointment Policy.
Chief Minister's Office’s spokesperson said that Badal cleared the file to this effect on Sunday evening “in a major pro-employee decision”.
Spokesperson said that earlier, the family member of government employees, who died in harness during their service up to 58 years, were only eligible for compassionate appointment.
But, now the government has decided to extend this facility to the employees who have opted extension in their service after superannuation at 58 up to 60 years, said the spokesperson.
In another employee-friendly decision, Badal has decided to give major relief to the employees by empowering the Head of Department (HoD) to give jobs to next of kin of deceased employees within five years. Badal has also decided that that beyond five-year Administrative Secretaries would have the power to give job on compassionate ground.
Pertinently, earlier the HoD had power to give job on compassionate ground within an year beyond which the case was forwarded to personnel department which could give the approval in five years, thereby causing undue harassment and inordinate delay in giving employment on compassionate ground to the eligible family members of the deceased employee.
