Punjab Chief Minster Parkash Singh Badal on Monday strongly condemned the utterances of Asaram Trust media advisor Neelam Dubey for making “highly objectionable and hurtful” references to Sikh history and especially the venerable Sikh gurus. The Chief Minister has also sought to withdraw the same “immediately”.

Badal, in a statement, said that these utterances had hurt the religious sentiments of the entire Sikh community and of millions of others who held the Gurus in the highest spiritual esteem.

“These utterances should be immediately withdrawn….Nobody should do or say anything that can endanger the hard-earned atmosphere of peace and communal harmony. No one should be allowed to make ill-advised statements on sensitive religious issues without verifying historical facts,” he added. Badal’s condemnation came in reaction to Dubey’s derogatory remarks against Sikh’s first Guru — Guru Nanak Dev, made during a live debate while defending Asaram Bapu in an alleged case of sexual assault.

Already, Delhi police has booked Dubey under sections of hurting religious sentiments of a community on a complaint lodged by the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC).
