Badal assures all help; Cong attacks Govt over law and order

A day after Sikh religious preacher Baba Ranjit Singh Dhadrianwala was attacked in ludhiana, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Wednesday assured him of all steps needed to ensure security for him.

Strongly condemning the brutal and dastardly assault on the religious preachers life, Badal said: “Violence has no place in a civilized society and runs against the teachings of the great gurus, saints and seers.”

Badal also conveyed his sincerest condolences to the members of the family of one of Baba's close associates who lost his life in the assault on the preacher’s life. He also conveyed his sympathies and support to others who were wounded in the attack.

Also condemning the incident in strongest words, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal directed Inspector General of Police Paramraj Singh Umranangal to personally oversee the case and ensure expeditious investigation.

He said that the guilty must be brought to book immediately. “Not a single person responsible for the cowardly attack would be allowed to escape the long reach of law,” he said.

Sukhbir claimed that five of the alleged assailants had already been apprehended and the police are closing in fast on the rest of them.

At the same time, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder Singh also condemned the murderous attack on Baba Dhadrianwale. Expressing relief that he escaped unhurt, he mourned the death of another person travelling with him.

Reiterating that Punjab was heading towards “jungle raj”, Capt Amarinder said that this reflected very poorly on the law and order situation in the State as the criminals had lost any fear of law.

“The law and order situation is going from bad to worse and we are heading from chaos to anarchy under the Akali-BJP regime,” he observed.

Referring to particular incident of attack on Baba Ranjit Singh, he pointed out, how his car was stopped and then chased by the assailants for four kilometres. “This is unprecedented”, he remarked, while adding, there was never such an atmosphere of fear prevailing in Punjab.

Expressing alarm over the deteriorating law and order situation, the former Chief Minister said hardly any day passed when there was not a major law and order incident in Punjab. “It is turning to be the land of gangsters and murders and the Government remains unmoved”, he said, while referring to recent incidents of murder where the police still remained clueless.

Joining in, Congress’ chief spokesperson Sunil Jakhar called it a failure of the Punjab Police while slamming the ruling SAD-BJP Government and its leader for giving provoking statements.

Condemning the recent attack, Jakhar expressed his deep concern over these kinds of continuous happening in the state and pointed out that the neighbouring country Pakistan has already been trying to disturb the State by initiating attacks like Dinanagar and Pathankot.

He also warned the State Government to stop playing with the emotions of the people in the name of the betterment of the state and also reminded the state Government not to forget that their Government is ruling in the State as well as at the central level, so they should maintain law and order in the State instead of playing with emotions of people.

He said that State Government have been diverting the attention from the core issues of all Punjabis by provoking people to get ready for their water share, whereas the ruling party in the State and Centre is the same.

Jakhar also pointed out list of previous happening like terrorist attack, disrespect of Sri Guru Granth Sahib, in which State Government could not find out real culprits even till the day.

He also raised the issue of conflict between Jathedar and Panj Payara and rising killings in the State. “The state Government must understand the depth of these sensitive issues before politically generated statements in the public,” he said.

Jakhar demanded that the police must come on any conclusion in all such pending cases, instead of playing in the hands of ruling Government in the election year.
