Badal asks Capt to refrain from making baseless comments

A day after senior Congress leader Capt Amarinder Singh asked Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to “quit politics as he has grown old”, the Akali veteran on Wednesday advised him to “refrain from issuing baseless statements”.

Retorting to his arch-rival’s “sarcastic” birthday wishes, Badal told Capt Amarinder to not to forget that the responsibility of serving the State was bestowed upon him by the people and only the electorate had the power of removing him.“It is the people of Punjab who elected me as the Chief Minister of the State for the record fifth term…I am serving the State as per the wishes of the party and the public,” said Badal.

Badal said that throughout his political career he had been a votary of morality and had never stooped so low by issuing undesirable and unwarranted statements. “My friend Capt Amarinder must understand that democracy is based on the verdict of people and not by whims and fancies of any individual,” he added.
