To pay befitting tribute to Baba Moti Ram Mehra, a state-of-art Baba Moti Ram Memorial would be to set up at Sri Fathegarh Sahib by Punjab Government.
“The martyrdom of these legends is a lighthouse for those people who are continuously fighting against the injustice and tyranny,” said Punjab Cultural Affairs Ministers Sarwan Singh Phillaur, while presiding over a meeting with the members of concept committee constituted for the construction of the memorial.
He said that the state government was committed for perpetuating the rich legacy of the great Gurus and other such personalities for which stupendous efforts were being made by them.
Baba Moti Ram Mehra sacrificed his life while serving selflessly for Guru Gobind Singh. Disregarding the risk to his own life, he managed to enter the thanda burj in a very dramatic manner and served milk to Mata Gujri and Baba Zorawar Singh and Baba Fateh Singh — two younger sons of Guru Gobind Singh — for three nights, where they were kept under arrest by Mughal Governor of Sirhind,
Wazir Khan.
A devoted disciple was sentenced to death by being squeezed in a kohlu (oil press) along with his family, including his little son.
The concept paper, prepared by Dr Manhoman Singh Bhagowalia for the establishment of Baba Moti Ram Mehra memorial, was discussed in the presence of the concept committee members including former minister Sewa Singh Sekhwan, former MP Prof Prem Singh Chanumajra, Prof Kirpal Singh, Prof Pirthipal Singh Kapoor, Principal Secretary SS Channy and other members of the committee.
It was later unanimously decided by the members to make concept paper more precise. “Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal would personally review the progress report of this project very soon,” said Phillaur, while issuing directions to the officials to complete all formalities for the establishment of this project without any delay.
