Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said that MLAs and MPs who are the members of State Level Vigilance and Monitoring Committee constituted under Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Rules, 1995 will conduct awareness seminars in educational institutions across the state every year.
In these seminars, the students will be made aware of the rights of SCs and STs. Presiding over the State Level Vigilance and Monitoring Committee constituted under Rule 16 of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Rules, 1995, Khattar directed officials to ensure that there should not be any delay in giving legal aid to the people belonging to scheduled caste in case of atrocities against them.
He said that the hoardings or banners should be installed in scheduled caste settlements to make people aware of their rights. Apart from this, the information should also be publicised through other means of communication. It was also suggested in the meeting that two investigating officers including an officer from scheduled caste and others from the General category, should be appointed while investigating the cases related to the atrocities on them.
