To generate more awareness amongst the youth of Punjab, special awareness campaigns would soon be conducted in the educational institutes of the State.
In this regard, the State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Raminder Singh has directed the officers concerned to launch awareness campaign in the universities, colleges and other educational institutions under Systematic Voters’ Education Electoral Participating (SVEEP) programmes. Besides, it has been decided that eligible women voters, service voters and remaining voters would also be encouraged to get themselves registered as voters.
In addition, the NRIs, who have not yet been registered, could also get themselves registered as per the guidelines of Chief Election Commission of India. The decisions have been taken in view of the recent directions of Punjab CEO to all additional district electoral officers and other concerned officers to ensure proper implementation of the guidelines issued by the Chief Election Commission with regard to SVEEP.
Besides, the central election commission has also directed the state authorities to revise the voters’ list as per the cut out date of January 1, 2014. A full training programme was conducted for the officers concerned about the activities of SVEEP to ensure the proper revision of voters’ lists according to the guidelines of the CEC so that more and more eligible voters could be registered during the revision of the voters’ lists to begin on September 6, 2013. Special attention was being paid to register the youth in the age group of 18 years or above as voters.
