Atta-Dal scheme collapsed due to financial crisis: Punjab Congress

Slamming the SAD-BJP Government, Punjab Congress on Monday alleged that the ambitious Atta-Dal scheme has collapsed due to the poor financial conditions of the State Government.

The leader of Opposition in Punjab Vidhan Sabha Sunil Jakhar, taking on the ruling combine, said that he “suspected a big scam” in providing food material to 1.42 crore population of the State, who could not get even a single grain from December 2014.

“To avoid the anguish of people, the State Government have been planning to provide this whole food material of several months at one time as per their convenience by providing an opportunity to the hoarders of the grain markets to sell these food material in the black market,” he alleged.

Jakhar said that the Congress president Sonia Gandhi had taken the initiative to provide the food material at low prices for the people of below poverty line (BPl) but “due to the political aspirations of the State Government, the officials could not provide the food material to the real beneficiary and this scheme collapsed as lots of fake people are getting the benefits under the scheme”.

The Congress legislative Party (ClP) leader mentioned that the State Government had already stopped low price pulses to the 15 lakh card holders from the last 14 months.

Jakhar advised the State Government that they must dare to highlight this fact that how much grants they received under the Congress-led Central Government run by the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the session 2013-2014 and also compare with the grants issued by the NDA led Central Government led by Prime Minister Narendera Modi, so that people of the state could understand the difference between the Congress Government and so called pro-poor people government of the BJP.
