At 86, OP Chautala appears for English exam at Sirsa

Former Haryana Chief Minister and Indian National Lok Dal chief OP Chautala (86) on Wednesday appeared for compartment examination in English for class X at Sirsa district.

The Haryana Board of School Education had on Wednesday conducted a one-day exam of secondary and senior secondary (educational/open school) classes. About 15554 students had appeared for various exams held by HBSE across the state.

Chautala was allowed to take help of a writer for his exam on the grounds of disability.

After the exam, the former Chief Minister refused to talk to the mediapersons saying that a student never talks to the media.

The octogenarian was recently declared passed by the HBSE in class XII (open school), however his result was put on hold due to non-fulfilment of eligibility criteria. He was among six students whose results were put on hold by HBSE.

As per the criteria, it is compulsory to pass the English subject in secondary examination (class X). Those candidates who fail in English subject in secondary examination, have to give the secondary examination of English subject with the senior secondary examination under Haryana open school system.

Under the rules, such candidates have to pass the given examination (English class X) before the senior secondary examination otherwise his/her result for the senior secondary examination is terminated.

Notably, Chautala was released from Delhi’s Tihar jail in July where he served a 10-year sentence in a teachers’ recruitment scam. He had appeared for secondary exams in Tihar jail.
