Sounding the poll bugle for 2017, the Aam Aadmi Party’s Punjab unit on Tuesday declared that anti-people elements will bite the dust and poor and humble people will rise in the forthcoming State Assembly elections.

The party exhibited its strength during its conference at Chamkaur Sahib on the occasion of Shaheedi Jor Mela, which was attended by party’s State convener Sucha Singh Chhotepur, Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann, Faridkot MP Sadhu Singh, Punjab co-convener Durgesh Pathak, youth wing president Harjot Bains, women wing president Baljinder Kaur, and party workers from all over Punjab.

Chhotepur, addressing the gathering, said that since the beginning, people of Punjab had always raised their voice against the atrocities of the rulers. “Guru Nanak Dev opposed the anti-people policies of ruler Babar and even today, the people of Punjab have set an example by opposing Akali-BJP and the Congress,” he said.

He said that it was witnessed during lok Sabha elections in Punjab that people send four MPs, who were among the common people. “In 2017 elections, the anti-people elements will bite the dust and poor and humble people will rise,” he said.

Criticising the Akali-BJP Government for anti-farmer policies in the State, Mann said that the businesses of Badals have risen many folds while the backbone of Punjab economy, peasantry is destroyed by the Government.

Mann condemned the Akali, BJP and Congress leaders for shielding drug paddlers and criminals. “Association of Congress leader Rana Gurmeet Sodhi and Sukhbir Badal with Shiv lal Doda, who is a liquor dealer and is associated with Abohar Dalit murder case, shows the real face of these parties,” he said.
