Amid the ongoing farmers’ protest against three central farm laws, Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij on Monday met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi.
After the meeting, Vij said that the issue of farmers’ protest was discussed in detail during the meeting.
The political situation in Haryana, the anticipated third wave of Coronavirus and the COVID-19 vaccination campaign being run in the state were also discussed, he said.
It is learnt that Vij apprized Amit Shah about the law and order situation in Haryana amid the intensified farmers’ protest in various parts of the state. The Union Minister was also apprized about the recent incidents of attack on BJP leaders by protesting farmers.
The meeting came at a time when stalemate continues in Sirsa where farmers are demanding the release of five protesters who were arrested following an attack on Haryana Assembly Deputy Speaker Ranbir Gangwa's car on July 11.
Police had booked over 100 people, mostly unidentified, for sedition, obstructing public servants in discharge of their duty, murderous attempt on an elected representative and damaging public property. Five farmers among over 100 were arrested for allegedly attacking the BJP leader's vehicle.
Samyukt Kisan Morcha leader Baldev Singh Sirsa had begun fast-unto-death on July 18 in Sirsa demanding release of five farmers and withdrawal of sedition charges against the farmers.
Notably, thousands of farmers have been camping at three border points of Delhi – Singhu, Tikri (along Haryana), and Ghazipur (alongUttar Pradesh) demanding a repeal of the three farm laws enacted by the Centre in September last year.
Preparing for the upcoming elections to municipal bodies and panchayati raj institutions in Haryana, the BJP faces a major challenge of ongoing farmers' agitation.
The protest against the farm laws has been going on for over seven months now and the protestors are not allowing the leaders of BJP and its alliance partner JJP to hold any public events across the state.
