'Amarinder trying to invent political straws to clutch at'

Reacting to Amarinder Singh’s statement on Jat reservation, SAD on Friday said that it was “just another desperate attempt by a politically drowning person to  invent some political straws to clutch at”.

“Now as his bluff on Congress responsibility for Operation Bluestar has been called, he has jumped quickly to sloganeering on Jats, for whose reservation he never did anything as Chief Minister,” said senior Akali leader and former state Minister Prof Prem Singh Chandumajra.

On the Jat issue, SAD has already made its stand clear, unlike Amarinder Singh who is talking about only when he is out of power, he added.

“Amarinder is desperately trying to keep himself in news by issuing statement after statement daily.

The Maharaja has been reduced to the level of one of the many spokespersons of his party. He is no longer a factor it Punjab politics or even in the PPCC.

He should use his forced political retirement to write either his autobiography or on golf club elections. Or he can deliver lectures on subjects like ‘From Government to Golf Clubs’,” he added.

Chandumajra stated that reservation was a serious issue requiring thorough attention to legal and constitutional aspects of the problem so that a relief to the beneficiary does not hit a judicial road-block. “The State Government is fully seized of the issue and has the full political backing of the SAD,” he added.
