Amarinder hits out at Modi Govt

Punjab Congress president Capt Amarinder Singh on Wednesday lashed out at the Modi Government over “inhuman and dictatorial treatment” meted out to the family of ex-serviceman Subedar Ram Kishen, who committed suicide over the OROP issue in New Delhi.

Not only were the family members of the deceased illegally detained but they were also beaten up by the police in brazen display of shameful high-handedness and mental depravity, said Capt Amarinder while demanding strict action against the guilty cops.

“What could be more reprehensible than the fact that the family was not even allowed to see the body of Subedar Ram Kishen,” he said.

Capt Amarinder, at he same time, unequivocally condemned the detention of Congress’ national vice-president Rahul Gandhi, who had gone to meet the bereaved family, as a “frontal attack on democracy”.

Asserting that Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar had lost all moral right to remain in office after the shocking incident, Captain Amarinder said that the abominable treatment of defence personnel, ex-servicemen and war widows by the defence ministry had hit a shocking low under his leadership.

Capt Amarinder said that Subedar Ram Kishen’s suicide had exposed the defence minister’s lie on the implementation of OROP. “The defence minister is squarely responsible for Ram Kishen’s death and should step down from office taking moral accountability for the same,” demanded the state Congress chief.
