The ‘Patiala Royal’ was at its combative best on Monday. Sending a strong message to the party workers that he stood by them, Punjab Congress president Capt Amarinder Singh stormed into the local police station to protest against registration of a false case against one of the party workers, Baldev Singh.
The Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president warned the police officials against registering false cases stating that they will have to account for every offence of omission and commission they committed against the Congress workers.
“Respect the uniform you are wearing and ensure that you resort to no injustice at the behest of the Akalis, whose days are numbered now,” he told the police officials, while accompanying Baldev Singh to the police station.
Capt Amarinder’s move came after seeing a party worker breaking down while narrating his story during his ‘Halqe vich Captain’ programme at Sangat Mandi in Bathinda. Capt Amarinder left his programme midway after an elderly party worker Baldev Singh broke down while narrating the story of persecution and false case registered against him at the behest of Akali leaders and went to the concerned police station where the false case had been registered against him (Baldev Singh).
“I have nothing personal against you, but if I find any of you having harassed or victimised any of my party workers, it will be more than personal for me and I will neither forget nor forgive it,” he told the police in a stern warning.
He added, “All those police officials found guilty of having framed the Congress workers must be ready for going to jail along with their Akali mentors.”
“let me announce it today, loud and clear that all those police officials, who connived with the Akali jathedars and framed the Congress workers in false cases, that their countdown has begun and they will find themselves behind the bars after we form the government in Punjab”, he said while talking to the reporters outside the local police station.
PPCC president disclosed that Baldev Singh was booked in a false case after a scuffle between two groups of people in November 2015, just because he was a Congress supporter.
“While the police claimed that he had been booked for non-bailable offence, he was still haunted and harassed so much so he had to get bail from the Punjab and Haryana High Court…Baldev Singh is being victimised since his daughter Harsimrat Kaur had contested election as a Congress candidate for the Zila Parishad elections,” he said.
The former Chief Minister said that there were 125 complaints related to false cases having been registered in Sangat Mandi Police Station only. This was just one of the examples as everywhere people had been framed just because they were Congress workers and supporters, he added.
He warned the local Akali leaders who were named by the Congress workers for intimidating and persecuting them, that they will meet the same fate. “Not only am I under oath of the Gutka Sahib to cancel all the false cases, but I am committed to myself that those who harassed and victimised my workers and supporters shall never be forgiven”, he warned.
“Come what may, I will ensure that they pay for their sins and the atrocities they committed against the Congress workers,” he added.
