Amarinder absorbed corruption of his coterie: AAP's Shergill

The mudslinging between Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab continued on Thursday with AAP’s legal cell chief Himmat Singh Shergill saying that Captain Amarinder Singh absorbed the corruption of his politician colleagues.

Refuting the statements of Congress leaders that Shergill’s father was an associate of Captain Amarinder Singh during his tenure as Chief Minister, Shergill said that his father (lt Shamsher Singh Shergill) or he had never taken any personal favours from Captain Amarinder Singh or his Government.

Addressing a Press conference here, Shergill said that the coterie of Captain Amarinder Singh was trying to divert the main issue of nexus between the liquor mafia and the leaders of Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal(SAD).

Refuting the Congress leaders for their claims that Captain Amarinder Singh had arranged for his stay, study and expenses in london, Shergill said that he stayed and studied law in london on his own. Presenting documents of his tax returns, Shergill said that he worked as a security guard to maintain his expenses.

Going ahead with his response to the claims about his father’s association with Captain Amarinder Singh, Shergill said that his father was an expert in Constitutional law and it was not only Captain Amarider Singh, but he had been appointed in Advocate Generals office before that also. He said that his father’s appointment was not a personal favour.

Taking on Capt. Amarinder Singh for the statements of his Congress colleagues, Shergill said that if Capt. Amarinder Singh is serious about his claims of making Punjab Corruption free, he should welcome the demand of a judicial probe into the liquor mafia and politician nexus.

Just two days back AAP had demanded a judicial probe into the “liquor business links” between ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and Congress leaders. Shergill had demanded a judicial probe into the claims of Abohar murder accused Amit Doda that he was in a business meeting with Congress MlA Rana Gurmeet Sodhi when the crime took place.

Shergill had also demanded an inquiry into reports that Rana Sodhi’s family had got a license for setting up a distillery in Punjab at the fag-end of Captain Amarinder Singh’s tenure and the license was renewed by deputy CM Sukhbir Badal in 2010.

On Wednesday, Congress legislators Balbir Singh Sidhu, Hardyal Kamboj and Rana KP Singh had said in a joint statement that it was Capt Amarinder who had facilitated his (Himmat Singh Shergill) studies abroad after the untimely death of his father Shamsher Singh Shergill, who died in service while being an Additional Advocate General in Punjab and Haryana High Court.
