Days after the hill State lost seven of its army men in Manipur attack, Himachal Pradesh Government on Saturday said that it will provide all possible help to their family members. In all, 17 army personnel were killed when insurgents ambushed a military convoy in Manipur’s Chandel district on June 4. Seven out of them belonged to Himachal Pradesh.
“The state government has decided to provide all possible help, including financial assistance, to family members of those army men who were killed in Manipur. We will also give suitable jobs to widows of army men if they are educated,” said the state Health and Revenue Minister Kaul Singh Thakur, while interacting with the media at Chandigarh Press Club during Meet the Press event.
He said that the state government would also give compensation to the family members of martyrs. However, he said that the quantum of compensation would be decided by the Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh. Thakur said that out of seven army men from Himachal Pradesh, “two army personnel were from my constituency (Darang)”. Among the seven martyrs, three belonged to Mandi district, two were from Sirmaur and one each from Kangra and Bilaspur.
