Akalis trying to intimidate AAP volunteers: Shergill

Published on:

Accusing ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) of trying to intimidate the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) volunteers, AAP’s legal Wing head Himmat Singh Shergill on Tuesday said that the Akalis had got baffled with the growing graph of AAP and the ruling party had started targeting party volunteers.

Alleging the ruling party of using the Government machinery to patronise the attack on AAP volunteers, Shergill said that action against the SAD workers who had attacked AAP volunteers in Moga two days back, makes it clear that the government was patronising such attacks.

Accompanied by AAP Farmer’s Wing General Secretary Ahbaab Grewal and state unit spokesman Sukhpal Khaira, Shergill said that the SAD activists attacked AAP volunteers in Moga district two days back and injured three AAP volunteers, but police did not booked the accused under the appropriate sections of law. He said, the assailants had lethal weapons like Pistol, iron rods and sharp edged weapons when they attacked the shop of an AAP volunteers Baljinder Singh Khalsa, and finding Khalsa absent from the shop, they attacked other three supporters of the party, Gobind Singh, Balwinder Singh and Gobind Singh’s son Shankar, who had to be admitted to hospital later.

Shergill complained that due to police’ putting mild charges against the accused, all the accused arrested had been sent to judicial custody. Shergill alleged that police did not even asked for police remand of the accused.

Apprehending more attacks on AAP supporters, Shergill said that last month Deputy Chief Minister, who occupies the Home portfolio also, had raised ISI threat in Punjab.

He said that it seemed that the ruling party was trying to terrorize people on the

plank of ISI threat and under the garb of ISI, Akalis may create law and order problems in the State.

later on, taking on the Congress, Sukhpal Khaira said that Capt Amarinder Singh in his statements seemed to have accepted his defeat.
