Akali, BJP egos for oneupmanship delaying NOCs, says Amarinder

Congress Deputy leader in the lok Sabha and Amritsar MP Capt Amarinder Singh on Sunday said that the mutual political egos for one-upmanship between the Shiromani Akali Dal and the Bharatiya Janata Party in Punjab have resulted in undue delay in sorting out the issue of ‘No Objection Certificates’ (NOC) for the plot and property holders in unregularised colonies across Punjab.

“People are suffering and this also has an adverse impact on the business sentiment...the smaller property transactions have come to a halt resulting in the loss to small time traders, besides harassment to those who wanted to buy or sell plots or houses for their personal use,” said the former Chief Minister. Capt Amarinder said that such situations emerged when the ruling partners did not trust each other. “The level of mistrust has led to such a stage that the Akali leadership is wary of taking any decision which might end up benefitting the BJP,” he pointed, while referring to the undue delay in notifying issue of NOCs for regularising unregulated colonies despite having made a commitment to this effect.

“In this process, the common man is suffering...With most of the economic activity in the State having come to a standstill, the real estate business, though at a limited level only, is helping in some economic activity,” he said.

Senior Congress leader added, “Unfortunately, even that has also been stopped by the Akalis with a vicious motive to damage its alliance partner while at the same time giving a damn to the interests of the common man who has been made to suffer extensively.”

Capt Amarinder told the alliance leaders that their disputes and personal egos can wait and they must instead think of providing some relief to the common people. “Better you clear the air on the NOC matter at the earliest and issue the necessary guidelines at the earliest lest people will have to come out on streets and fight for their rights,” he warned.
