Ailing Chautala writes a letter lauding Modi

Indian National lok Dal (INlD) chief, who is lodged behind bars in Delhi’s Tihar Jail, congratulated Narendra Modi for becoming the 15th Prime Minister of India through a letter on May 26.

Chautala who is serving a jail term under corruption charges along with his son Ajay Chautala and several other senior leaders of his party wrote an emotional letter expressing his inability to attend the swearing in ceremony.

However, the senior Haryana leader who is admitted in Ram Manohar lohia Hospital in Delhi for treatment also wrote that he is looking forward to attend the swearing in ceremony when Modi will take oath for second term as the Prime-Minister. He termed Modi’s victory as a historic event and an extremely successful one and assured the new Prime Minister of full cooperation.

Earlier Chautala has attended Modi’s swearing ceremonies for four times from 2001-2012, when he took oath as the chief minister of Gujarat. Chautala’s son Abhay Chautala, however, attended the swearing in ceremony in Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday along with four Haryana MPs of his party.

Political expert are speculating that this letter of INlD chief to Modi might be an attempt to build the ground for a possible alliance between the two parties for the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections which are due in October

this year.
