“Cultivation of maize, mustard and moong need to be promoted in a big way across the country and this must be accompanied by adoption of modern technology in the agriculture sector,” said ICAR deputy director general (Agriculture Extension) and Centre’s Agriculture Commissioner Dr AK Singh, while speaking during an Indian Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR) consultation meet on ‘Emerging challenges in plant protection of major kharif crops’ n Sunday. Instead of focusing on wheat and rice, cultivation of 3Ms – maize, moong, and mustard – should be promoted as it can help the country in attaining self-sufficiency and at the same time help in enhancing the income of the farmers, he opined.
