After launching 'Operation Durga' on the lines of the 'anti-Romeo squads' set up by Yogi Adityanath Government in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana Government on Thursday arrested 23 people who indulged in crimes against women, including eve-teasing.

Police have registered nine criminal cases, including three each at Panipat and Gurugram, and one each at Bhiwani, Sirsa and Faridabad.

A day before, police teams had caught more than 70 people across the State on the first day of  'Operation Durga', which is launched to curb the instances of harassment of girls and eve-teasing outside educational institutions in the State.

"After the launch of the campaign, police teams had conducted 41 raids at public places such as schools, colleges, bus stands and railway stations, and nabbed 107 persons," said a spokesman of the Police Department.

He said others were warned to be careful in future and were released by local police on written assurance by parents, guardians and social respectable. The spokesman said even though Haryana Government had established women police stations in all districts in the State to ensure safety of women and provide them with a safe place for lodging complaints, it was observed that women hesitated in reporting incidents involving such anti-social elements.

Therefore, a campaign has been launched after identifying places where such anti-social elements were indulging in eve teasing, vulgar comments, stalking and other similar activities, he added.

Twenty-four teams formed by the Chief Minister's Flying Squad are undertaking the entire operation in all districts of Haryana. The teams comprise of nine Sub-inspectors of Police including woman personnel, 14 Assistant Sub-inspectors, six Head Constables and 13 constables, besides other police officers from each district.
