After dismissal of Ram Singh, head constable in Punjab Police and room mate of Olympian bronze medalist boxer Vijender Singh at NIS Patiala, the State police has now shifted its focus on Vijender and started exploring ways to get the samples of the latter's his hair and blood in the drug haul case.
"We have given the case to the public prosecutor at Fatehgarh Sahib to get the required samples of hair and blood of Vijender Singh, as he had refused to give us samples during our questioning at police lines in Panchkula on March 12," Hardial Singh Mann, SSP, Fatehgarh Police told The Pioneer.
Ram Singh had allegedly confessed that he and Vijender had "tried out" heroin after procuring it "four-five times" from their "friend" Kahlon, but had expressed his ignorance about Anoop Singh Kahlon being a smuggler. Vijender, who is a DSP in Haryana Police was quizzed in Panchkula. He did not deny having met Kahlon but rubbished claims that he had taken heroin.
However, SSP, Fatehgarh claimed that he had enough documentary proof against Vijender which establishes his links with Kahlon, the main drug peddler in the case.
Mann said the role of Ram Singh in association with Anoop Singh Kahlon, Rocky and others had been conclusively established and thereafter a report on this was sent to the Commandant, 2nd Commando Battalion, which is the parent unit of HC Ram Singh. The Commandant of the Batallion, Sushil Kumar dismissed Ram Singh from service.
The drug trail is getting longer, Punjab Police officials said. One serving sub inspector of Punjab Police, Sarabjit Singh of Naya Gaon has also been dismissed on account of his direct involvement in the case. On the intervening night of 26/ 27 March, during raid at the house of Sarabjit Singh, police recovered 2Kg 600 gm opium and 1 Kg powder (which is yet to be tested) and packing material for drugs.
"The packaging material is similar to what had been recovered from the house of Jagdish Bhola. Besides this, police also recovered 10 empties of AK -47 and a 12 bore gun without licence, besides 11 mobile handsets from the house of Sarabjit Singh", added Mann.
The sub-inspector is absconding after the raid. Investigation has revealed that after Jagdish Bhola absconded on March 7, he went to the house of Sarabjit Singh from where he made telephone calls to his associates using the mobile phone registered in the name of the wife of Sarabjit, Reet Sidhu. Sarabjit is an active member of the gang of smugglers headed by Anoop Singh Kahlon and Jagdish Bhola, a former Arjuna awardee international wrestler. He aided Bhola in absconding and arranged hideouts.
So far, 15 persons, including Anoop Singh Kahlon, Manpreet Singh alias Mani, Gabber Singh, Sunil Katyal, Sandeep Singh, Kulwinder Singh alias Rocky, Kuldeep Singh, Amandeep Singh, Rajinder Singh, Kulbir Singh, Kulwant Singh, Harpreet Singh, Kirpal Singh, former DSP, Meerut, Sandeep Singh Thakur and Paramjit Singh, have been arrested in the drug haul case. However, Jagdish Bhola and Sarabjit Singh are still at large.
