'Adopt Indian lifestyle instead of Western'

Haryana and Punjab Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki on Tuesday urged people to adopt Indian lifestyle instead of Western lifestyle for a healthy life.

Speaking at a nature cure health programme organised jointly by the Chandigarh Press Club and Dhawan Nature Care, the Governor said that such a lifestyle that would ensure physical and mental health of an individual had been developed in India a long time ago.

“Having understood the value of the Indian way of life, the Central Government formed a separate Ministry of AYUSH, which is promoting Ayurveda, Yoga and natural medicine. These things represent the Indian way of life rather than any medical system. I believe that as a result of the Government’s efforts, people will adopt the AYUSH way of life and be successful in building a healthy India,” he said.

Referring to Ayurveda as the ‘fifth veda’, Solanki said that all Vedas were older than history and had been created by God himself. “Therefore, through the medium of Ayurveda, the creator of life has also shown us the way of living,” he added.

Expressing worry that people are falling ill by adopting Western lifestyle, the Governor said that the Western way of life referred to man as a slave to his desires. “However, even the ‘Arthashastra’ says that there can be no end to desires. That is why a desire-free life has been considered ideal in the Indian way of life,” he said. He congratulated Dhawan Nature Care for spreading awareness about health and inspiring people to live a natural life.

Advisor to the Chandigarh Administrator Vijay Kumar Dev, Dhawan Nature Care founder Former Union Minister Harmohan Dhawan, former Union Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal and Chandigarh Press Club president Balwinder Jammu also attended the event.
