Himachal Governor Acharya Devvrat on Friday said that people should adopt traditional Ayurveda system to live a healthy life.
Presiding over the State level function on the occasion of National Ayurveda Day and Dhanvantari Divas organized by the department of Ayurveda in association with Paprola Ayurvedic, he said that this year’s theme ‘Ayurveda for the prevention and control of diabetes’ was quite relevant as India was among top three diabetic centres in the world.
The Governor said Central Government’s decision, though belated, to observe October 28 as National Ayurveda Day was proof that our own traditional system of medicine had finally received a very deserving national and global attention.
Keeping in view the increasing burden of existing and emerging diseases and gaps in modern medicines in dealing with the challenge along with setbacks like antibiotic resistance stress, there was need to include indigenous systems in mainstream
medicine.
Acharya Devvrat said Ayurveda had identified congenital factors and has a programme from life to death, from womb to tomb.
It was the science of life and the role of medicine in the management of the disease had been limited to the minimum as it rightly identifies the importance of diet and
physical activity in daily life style.
The Governor also stressed upon more research work on Ayurveda and said that more laboratories should be set up in the State. He appealed particularly the youth to avoid junk food to lead a healthy life. He also urged the department to organize camps where local Vaids should be provided a platform and separate department should be set up to identify precious medicinal plants.
He appreciated the efforts of Himachal Ayurvedic Minister Karan Singh for the promotion of Ayurveda in the State.
