A day after cancelling the affiliation of 20 institutes, the Punjab Technical Education Department on Monday stopped the admission process in 23 private Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), for the time being.

The institutes were affiliated with the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT) and the case for cancellation of their affiliation has been forwarded to the Director General Employment Generation (DGET).

“Admission has been temporarily stopped in 23 NCVT-affiliated private ITIs and notice has been given after deficiencies pointed out by the Principals or Inspecting Officers regarding poor training standard, shortage of Machinery or Equipment or Staff and Shifting of Building etc,” said State Technical Education and Industrial Training Minister Anil Joshi.

A day before, the Department has cancelled the affiliation of 20 institutions affiliated with the State Council for Vocational Training (SCVT), while another five NCVT— affiliated institutions have been suspended and cases for cancellation of their affiliation has also been forwarded.

The decision came following the department recently reviewed the working of these institutions, and found faults with the machinery and faculty.

Joshi had also made it clear that to maintain high standard of training, new instructions have been issued to the technical institutions and the institutions found violating the norms would be brought to task.
