Activist complains against MC for Model Code violation

Published on:

A city-based advocate and activist Ajay Jagga has registered a complaint with the election observer appointed by the Election Commission (EC) accusing the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation (MC) of violating the Model Code of Conduct.

In a complaint written to the election observer Vishvas Mehta in Chandigarh, he said that the EC had instructed that all references on politicians and ministers on the official website of MCs should be deleted during general or byelections to the lok Sabha and State legislative Assemblies.

However, the instructions were not being followed in Chandigarh as the official website of Chandigarh Municipal corporation was still showing photographs of the Mayor, who is a politician, alleged Jagga. He further alleged that apart from this, the official website of the Chandigarh Administration — www.chandigarh.nic.in — was also showing picture of the UT administrator, which must also be examined. The advocate has requested that the violations be taken seriously and all references or photos be removed from the government websites immediately.
