Action will be taken as per the law: Haryana CM on farmers’ protest in Hansi

As the farmers continued their indefinite dharna outside the mini-secretariat in Hansi in Haryana’s Hisar district for the second consecutive day, the Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Tuesday said that the action in the matter will be taken as per the law.

“Action will be taken against those found guilty in the matter. But the government will not take action under any pressure,” the Chief Minister said while talking to the mediapersons in Karnal.

The farmers had on Monday begun their protest outside Hansi SP office which is in a mini-secretariat, demanding withdrawal of an FIR registered against farmers in connection with a protest against BJP Rajya Sabha MP Ram Chander Jangra on November 5 during which his car's windscreen was allegedly broken by the protesters. The protesting farmers are also demanding an FIR against MP Jangra and his associates for assaulting a farmer, Kuldeep Rana, who was among the protesters on November 5.

Farm union leaders on Tuesday said that the administration is not ready to withdraw the FIR against farmers and file a case against the MP and announced to set up a “pakka morcha” (permanent dharna) in front of the mini-secretariat in Hansi.

The protesting farmers had earlier laid siege at Narnaund Police Station for their demands. The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) has said that a farmer, Kuldeep Rana, got seriously injured in the incident and is fighting for his life at Jindal Hospital. The 40-year-old owns a very small tract of land, the SKM said.

The SKM, an umbrella body of 40 farmer unions, leading the farmers’ agitation against the three central farm laws.

On the issue of ongoing farmers’ protest at Delhi-Haryana borders against three central farm laws, the Chief Minister said that the common people are facing problems due to the blocked roads on Singhu and Tikri borders.

“These roads should be opened in the interest of the public for smooth flow of traffic. A 5-feet road is opened at the Tikri border but there is a problem in the passage of big vehicles. Talks are on, however, if some people (protesting farmers) will stop being stubborn and start communicating then the matter can be resolved quickly, he said.
