With opposition giving a hard time to the SAD-BJP led Punjab Government seeking an independent probe in the multi-crore drug-racket, one of the main accused in the matter moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday.
Issuing a notice of motion to the State of Punjab, Justice Ritu Bahri has fixed January 10, Friday, as the next date of hearing.A businessman and one of the accused Jagjit Singh Chahal filed a petition in the HC seeking investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) alleging the Punjab police for carrying out “shady, biased and malicious investigations” for shielding bigwigs “enjoying the patronage of the State”.
Chahal, in his petition, argued that CBI probe was required in view of “urgent need to unearth the unholy nexus involving officials, ministers, bureaucrats, leaders of political parties and other such persons occupying positions in higher echelons of power and authority with the drug racket in the State of Punjab”.
The petition came at a time when the entire opposition, led by the Congress party, is taking on the SAD-BJP led State Government after the main accused in the matter Jagdish Bhola named the state Revenue Minister as “kingpin”.
