A fast-track court here on Tuesday convicted the dismissed UT police constable Basant Singh alias Bunty and his accomplice Sarita who allegedly stabbed inspector Sucha Singh on the night intervening June 7 and 8, this year.

The accused were produced in the special court of Justice SK Aggarwal. The sentences are expected to be handed down on Wednesday. Both the accused Bunty and Sarita were convicted on all the counts against them, including murder (302), attempt to murder (307), voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty (333), assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty (353), robbery or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt (397) and under Arms Act.

The charge sheet in the case included the statement of deceased Sucha Singh and Jitender Kumar, who was with Sucha Singh on the night and had sustained injures in the attack, and constable Anil Kumar, who was on duty at the old district courts.

Basant, along with his girlfriend Sarita, was on the run ever since he had killed Sarita’s husband and mother-in-law on April 18 in Sonipat. The couple was on way to catch a bus from Sector 17 on the night of June 7, when confronted by inspector Sucha Singh and home guards volunteer Jatinder Singh, who were on night patrolling. Basant attacked Sucha after the officials asked them to accompany them to the police station for verification.
