Following the farmers’ protest in Sonipat, Haryana Finance Minister Capt Abhimanyu reached to meet them on Wednesday and assured them that their interests would not be neglected.

The farmers of various villages of the Sonipat district have been protesting against land acquisition for the construction of the Kundli-Gaziabad-Palwal (KGP) expressway. They are demanding compensation on a par with farmers of Uttar Pradesh (for the KGP expressway) and equivalent to the relief paid to farmers against the land acquired for the Kundli-Maneshar-Palwal (KMP) expressway.

After meeting the farmers, Capt Abhimanyu said that representatives from various farmers’ organizations/unions from the ongoing dharnas in the district over the issue of land acquired for KGP and land acquired in Sonipat during the tenure of previous State Government have been called for a meeting in Chandigarh on November 17.

He said that the compensation awarded during the time of land acquisition was fair, but the farmers protested to get their rights after development of this land, and put forth their demands in a constitutional manner.

Now, a meeting would be held between the farmers and senior Haryana officers to resolve the issue on November 17. On this occasion, the Finance Minister also urged all the farmers to attend the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally in Rai on November 5.
