After Indian National Lok Dal’s humiliating defeat in bypoll to Jind Assembly segment, Leader of opposition and party’s senior leader Abhay Chautala on Friday alleged EVM (electronic voting machine) tempering in the bypoll.
“We will file a complaint with the Election Commission and demand an inquiry into the matter,” Chautala said while talking to the mediapersons in Rohtak.
INLD’s candidate Umed Singh Redhu had finished at fifth spot with just 3454 votes in Jind bypoll. The party candidate had ended up behind not only the Congress but also newly-formed Jannayak Janta Party and Loktantra Suraksha Party (LSP) of BJP rebel MP Raj Kumar Saini.
The result came as a major setback for the INLD as its candidate also ended up forfeiting his security deposit.
Chautala claimed that several people in villages had voted for the INLD but due to manipulation in EVM, the INLD secured only 3454 votes. This cannot be possible as we were expecting 14000-20000 votes in the bypoll, he said.
The INLD leader said, “We have recorded zero votes in some villages where we had our supporters and polling agents. There is a clear conspiracy against the INLD as we were expected to give a tough fight to the ruling BJP in the Jind bypoll.”
“We have asked our party workers and office bearers to analyze booth-wise the reason of INLD’s defeat. Soon, party’s executive committee will meet to deliberate upon party’s performance in the bypoll, he added.
JJP’s candidate Digvijay Chautala, who is Abhay Chautala’s nephew had finished at second spot in Jind bypoll with 37631 votes followed by Congress’ Randeep Singh Surjewala who secured 22740 votes.
BJP’s Krishan Middha, who had won the bypoll was polled 50566 votes (38.65 percent).
