AAP's Yogendra Yadav to contest lok Sabha polls from Gurgaon

Published on:

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) senior leader Yogendra Yadav will contest the 2014 lok Sabha polls from Gurgaon parliamentary constituency and is likely to give a tough contest to current MP Rao Inderjit Singh, who has joined BJP recently.

The AAP is likely to target around 30 percent voters living in the posh colonies of Gurgaon, Gurgaon city and the employees or labourers working in the industrial areas of Gurgaon, besides trying to woo 20 per cent voters belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in Gurgaon. The sitting MP for the last three terms, Rao Inderjit Singh, who has stronghold in the Ahirwal belt, would not only face anti-incumbency factor but also a tough contest from the candidate of Congress party, which he had left. “People of any area wants development not politics, however, three times sitting MP Rao Inderjit Singh couldn’t do anything for the people of his constituency during his tenure, except leveling allegations on Congress party for bias development. He had even left the Congress and joined BJP recently and this would be our main advantage,” said Rajeev Godara, spokesperson of AAP, Haryana.

Godara added that our target is not dynastic politics like Rao Inderjit and we are looking after marginalised people or common man who has suffered due to political leaders for more than five decades.

From Congress, Transport Minister Aftab Ahmed, CPS Rao Dan Singh and Power Minister Captain Ajay Yadav’s son and former president of State youth Congress Chiranjeev Rao among others have applied to get party’s ticket from the constituency. According to sources, Congress high command is also considering fielding Sara Pilot, wife of Minister Sachin Pilot from Gurgaon parliamentary constituency.

Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party has started its preparations for Rohtak’s rally to be held on February 23, from where party’s national convener Arvind Kejriwal will launch party’s campaign for lok Sabha elections. The party will also launch ‘Jhado Chalao’ yatras in 323 constituencies and 450 yatras would take place in Haryana.
