With an eye to woo the common man ahead of the lok Sabha elections, new entrant Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has decided to start nine days political campaign ‘Jhadu Yatra’ (Broom Yatra) in Haryana from February 15.
“After covering most of the urban districts through person to person contact programme, the party is now focusing on rural areas and this Yatra would be in addition to our ongoing political campaigns. We will cover the entire ten parliamentary constituencies within nine days till February 23,” said Rajiv Godara, a spokesperson of AAP Haryana unit while talking to The Pioneer.
He said, “We would convey the ideology of our party to the common man besides exposing the corruption, nepotism or favouritism in recruitments, dynastic politics of other political parties during our campaign.”
Earlier, the party had launched a telephonic campaign in each of the 90 Assembly constituencies of Haryana to provide information of their events in various constituencies. Godara said that the party has received around 440 applications of candidates for 10 lok Sabha constituencies in Haryana. The screening committee of the party has started interaction with all the applicants, but the final decision would be taken in a couple of days by Political Affairs Committee (PAC) headed by Arvind Kejriwal.”
After an impressive performance in Delhi assembly polls, AAP seems quite optimistic about its neighbouring State Haryana, especially in southern Haryana, from where its chief ministerial candidate Yogender Yadav belongs. The party is mainly focusing on the non-aligned, Dalit vote bank and voters of Ahirwal region besides NCR areas.
AAP is likely to give tough ballot contest to the ruling Congress. The ruling Congress is already struggling due to infighting and factionalism due to Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s rival Kumari Selja, Birender Singh and Rao Inderjit Singh.
On the other hand, the principle opposition Indian National lok Dal (INlD) which couldn’t even open its account in the last parliamentary elections is also in trouble with the absence of its leaders including former Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala, his son Ajay Chautala and other senior party leaders, who are behind bars in the JBT recruitment case.
