Giving a call to the people to help build a new Punjab free from drugs, farm suicides, unemployment, corruption and the land, sand, cable, transport and liquor mafia, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Youth Wing on Friday started the “Nawan Punjab March” from Fatehgarh Sahib.
The foot march by AAP volunteers and supporters will cover more than 280 kilometres, 120 villages in 12 days before culminating at Hussainiwala village in Ferozepur district on April 5.
Speaking on the occasion, Harjot Bains, President, AAP Youth wing, said it was an endeavor by the AAP’s youth wing to highlight the ills of Punjab especially those pertaining to the youth and the students.
“During the 9 year misrule of Punjab SAD-BJP alliance government led by Parkash Singh Badal majority of the Punjab youth has been pushed into the whirlpool of drugs and unemployment. The Badal Government has no direction or a road map for the youth” said Bains.
He said, “The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in their manifesto in 2012 assembly polls had promised Rs 1,000 as an unemployment monthly allowance every unemployed youth but practically did nothing in this regard. The Akalis also promised free laptops and data cards for the class 11th and 12th students in the same manifesto and pledged to fulfill the promise in the very first meeting of the cabinet but again did nothing on the ground. Badals also promised to make Punjab a Wi-Fi State on which again they have completely failed.
Taking on Punjab Congress Chief Capt Amarinder Singh, Bains said, “He is day dreaming of becoming Chief Minister after losing to Akalis consecutively, while he has no vision or futuristic agenda to offer to the youth of Punjab. During his tenure as Chief Minister from 2002 to 2007, he was busy making money for his MlA wife Preneet Kaur and son Raninder Singh and transferring money to the Swiss Bank accounts
rather than doing something for the welfare of the people,” said Bains.
Bains said, “We want to build a new Punjab which would be free from drugs, unemployment, corruption, land, sand, cable, transport and liquor mafia. We also want Punjab to get rid of both Badal and Amarinder families who have done nothing
but plundered the wealth
of Punjab during their respective tenures”.
On the first day of the march, the AAP volunteers covered nearly 25 kilometers and 10 villages of four
Vidhan Sabha constituencies comprising of Fategarh
Sahib, Bassi Pathana, Amloh and Khanna.
