Taking its war against drug menace in Punjab a one step further, the Aap Aadmi Party (AAP) has decided to make global.
The party, taking its anti-drug campaign overseas, would launch the ‘Kick Nasha’ campaign in the USA, the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Qatar, UAE and Singapore.
“As a continuation of AAP’s fight against drug abuse and trafficking, almost a dozen chapters of AAP from overseas like USA, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Qatar, UAE and Singapore will initiate the ‘Kick Nasha’ campaign on June 26,” said an AAP leader.
“Till now the fight was within India. Now, AAP is taking the fight a step further on the coming International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26,” he said.
As a part of the campaign, AAP will hold events in at least 16 cities of USA including Washington DC, New Jersey, los Angeles, Sacramento, Fresno, Yuba City, Stockton, Modesto, Silicon Valley, Houston, Dallas, Phoenix, Seattle, New York, Chicago, Milwaukee and Fairfield of the USA on June 26.
“Few more cities are also planning to do something. They may do it on June 25 due to constraints. Those cities are Boston, Jackson Mississippi, Bakersfield and Baltimore,” said the leader.
Besides, a painting titled ‘Ek Nasha’, signed by Delhi Chief Minister and AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal and senior AAP leader Dr Kumar Vishwas, will be auctioned to raise funds for party’s anti-drug campaign.
If that is not enough, a signature campaign will also be started on June 26 and the collected signatures will be submitted to the Consulate General wherever possible.
“The events will be coordinated by the country conveners in their respective countries,” said the AAP leader.
Parallel to this campaign, the party would also initiate a social media campaign with the hashtag #KickNasha “to create awareness about the issue of drug abuse”.
“People will be asked to send messages to the party which will then be shared with a larger audience,” said the leader.
The AAP leader said that the campaign is expected to go a long way in creating awareness towards the issue of drug abuse in Punjab globally. “We hope that after this, the Union and the State Goverments will at least realize the gravity of the situation and stop being oblivious to the problem,” he added. “AAP, since its very inception, has been taking a stand against social evils and ever since we got engaged in Punjab and understood the gravity of the situation, we have made anti-drug campaign a part of our being,” said the leader. AAP leader said that while AAP has been campaigning against drug abuse at the grassroots in Punjab, earlier this year, “senior party leader and poet Dr Kumar Vishwas also wrote a song depicting the plight of a family destroyed by drugs. The song, titled ‘Nasha’ garnered over a million views on Youtube and the line ‘Chadd de Jatta Pudiya’ went viral”.
