AAP to make PAU, Agri Dept accountable to ensure quality seeds, fertilisers, pesticides

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday assured that it would make Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), ludhiana, and the Agriculture Department directly responsible for providing quality seeds, fertilisers and pesticides to the farmers if voted to power in 2017 State Assembly polls.

Punjab Dialogue head Kanwar Sandhu said that the PAU and the Agricultural Department would be held directly accountable in case they provide spurious seeds, insecticides or the fertilisers to the farmers of Punjab. Punjab Dialogue is a part of series of interaction programmes AAP has initiated in Punjab under the banner ‘Bolda Punjab’, to have direct feedback from various segments of the society including farmers before forming its final draft of the election manifesto for the 2017 State Assembly polls.

Accompanied by senior leader Ashish Khetan, AAP's Kisan Wing president Capt GS Kang and senior leader Chander Suta Dogra, Sandhu said that PAU’s research and development wing, which has been lying non-functional for the last many years, would be activated by providing adequate financial and human resource support.

“We will deploy agricultural experts, scientists and also veterinary doctors all across Punjab to ensure they give right advice and guidance to the farmers of Punjab on various agricultural related issues", added Sandhu.
