AAP to hold 'Kisan Nyay Sammelan' to support demands by farmers

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday announced to launch a nationwide farmers’ movement in July in the backdrop of the killing of farmers at Mandsaur allegedly by the Madhya Pradesh Police.

For the purpose, the party will soon initiate ‘Kisan Nyay Sammelan’ and signature campaigns in all the States.

“AAP had organised one day protest at as many as 111 district headquarters of 15 States on June 10, 12, and 16, against the killing of debt ridden farmers,” said AAP’s Punjab Co-President and Sunam MlA Aman Arora.

Arora said that AAP units had then submitted memorandum to the district authorities demanding immediate waiver of loan, fixation of MSP with 50 percent profit over the cost of production and implementation of Swaminathan Commission report as promised by the BJP before the 2014 parliamentary elections.

“Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan slogan is decimated now by BJP through its sinister act of killing of the farmers in Madhya Pradesh. AAP will take up farmers’ fight and would like farmers to win this battle,” said Arora.

He said that as per NCRB report, in last 21 years, 3.15 lakh farmers have committed suicide.

The economic survey 2016 said that average income of a farmer in 17 States is Rs 20,000 per annum, that is around Rs 1,700 per month, he pointed.

Arora said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced in all the States before 2014 elections that they will give 50 per cent profit, but betrayed the farmers after formation of the Government.

“The present Central Government has submitted an affidavit in the Supreme Court that the Swaminathan Report cannot be implemented as it would lead to inflation in the country,” he said.
