AAP to file defamation case against national council member

A day after Pavitter Singh, members of National Council of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) alleged that senior leaders of the party were selling ticket for the Punjab Assembly polls, the party on Thursday decided to file a defamation case.

Himmat Singh Shergill, head of legal wing of AAP, said that the party will file a criminal and civil defamation against Pavitter Singh and his wife lakhwinder Kaur, as their allegations seemed to be a deep rooted political conspiracy. Coming to rescue of Sanjay Singh, In-charge, Party Affairs, Punjab, and Durgesh Pathak, Head, National Organisation Building, Shergill said that both the leaders had an unblemished record and the allegations made against them were baseless and frivolous.

Addressing a Press conference in Chandigarh before the release of AAP’s second list of candidates for Punjab Assembly, Shergill along with Jasbir Singh Bir, head of Administrative and Grievance cell of the party, said that the party was issuing a show cause notice to Pavitter Singh and his wife and they will be asked to explain their position within seven days.

Talking to the media on the allegations made by Pavitter Singh, former bureaucrat Jasbir Singh Bir said that Pavitter Singh and his wife were aspiring for ticket from Phillaur.

Pavitter Singh on Wednesday had alleged that he was asked to pay Rs 50 lakh for getting his wife lakhwinder Kaur nominated as candidate from Phillaur and he was asked to meet Sanjay Singh, In-charge, Party Affairs, Punjab, and Durgesh Pathak, Head, National Organisation Building on August 15 at Himmat Singh Shergill’s place in Chandigarh.

Pavitter Singh had alleged that he was offered a discount being a founder member, otherwise the party leaders had told him that they were getting 2.5 crore for each ticket.

Rubbishing the allegations before the media, Shergill said that such an indiscipline and defamatory statement was required to be dealt strictly, that is why party will soon take legal recourse against Pavitter Singh.
