The legislators of Aam Aadmi Party and lok Insaaf Party on Friday submitted a memorandum to the Punjab Governor, VP Singh Badnore, in the sand mining scam demanding immediate removal of the State Cabinet Minister, Rana Gurjit Singh.
The delegation included the leader of Opposition in Punjab Vidhan Sabha HS Phoolka, AAP’s Punjab unit president and Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann, party’s co-president and Sunam MlA Aman Arora, senioe leader and Bholath MlA Sukhpal Khaira and lIP’s founder and Atam Nagar MlA Simarjeet Singh Bains.
Seeking the Governor’s intervention in the ongoing land mining controversy erupted after alleged involvement of the State Power and Irrigation Minister, Rana Gurjit, the delegation pointed that since the formation of the new Government led by Capt Amarinder Singh, it has been mired in controversies on day-to-day basis.
“The recent e-auctions of sand mining have revealed the involvement of a Cabinet Minister through benami transactions,” the delegation stated.
The MlAs said the Government’s decision to set up a one-man retired High Court Judge Commission with “tailor made” terms of reference clearly show that there was a clear cut attempt by the present Government to help its Minister, who is knee deep in the controversy.
“Rana Gurjit’s ex-employees, who have deep nexus with him and his business houses, are acting as his front men to gain financially by abusing his position,” they alleged while demanding that an inquiry must be done by the sitting judge of the High Court.
The MlAs added that AAP and lIP alliance, being the main opposition, has the duty to raise the voice against the corrupt practices of the government.
They demanded that Rana Gurjit Singh should be dismissed from the cabinet with immediate effect.
