Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday gave two-week time for the Congress led Punjab Government to announce the loan waiver.
Announcing the same, party’s newly appointed state president Bhagwant Mann said that in case the government fails to wave off loans till May 30, “AAP, along with the farmers of the State, will start agitations throughout the state”.
Mann said that along with farmers, government must announce waiver for the farm laborer as they are totally dependent on the farming.
Raising the issue of farmers and farm laborers suicide in State, he asked Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh to wave off the loan as promised before elections or be ready to face the heat.
Mann, also Sangrur MP, said that as per media reports, more than 40 farmers have committed suicide in last 56 days of newly formed Capt Amarinder Government. “The Government apathy is the sole reason of the sorry state of peasantry in Punjab. The new government has completed two months in the state but no road map in this regard has announced yet,” he said.
“Although the Congress has replaced Akali Dal in Government, but nothing has changed for farmer in the State,” he said.
Asking Capt Amarinder to announce the time frame of loan waiver, Mann said that the state’s financial condition cannot be an excuse to run away from the promise of waving off farm debt as Congress was aware of the conditions when it was making promises with the farmers before elections.
