AAP seeks time-bound inquiry in drug scandal

Aam Aadmi Party on Thursday asked Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh to clear his stand about the Congress leader Sarwan Singh Phillaur who was charge-sheeted in Rs 6,000 crores drug scandal.

The party has also asked the Chief Minister to mark a time-bound inquiry against SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia and Congress MP Chaudhary Santokh Singh “for their involvement in the case”.

“It is the time for Capt Amarinder to prove that he is against drug paddlers and stands by his statement to wipe out drugs from the state in one month,” said AAP’s Punjab unit co-president and Sunam MlA Aman Arora and Deputy leader of Opposition in Punjab Vidhan Sabha Sarabjit Kaur Manuke, in a joint statement.

Arora said that the fresh challan filed by Enforcement Directorate against Phillaur and former Akali MlA Avinash Chander proved that Congress and Akali leaders are equally involved in the drug trade.

“ED had grilled Bikram Majithia and Chaudhary Santokh Singh in the case. At that time, the demand of CBI inquiry, raised by the then state Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa, was opposed by Capt Amarinder Singh saying that the state police and agencies are capable enough to solve the case,” pointed AAP leaders.
