AAP seeks copies of Bills to be discussed in Assembly

Aam Aadmi Party on Sunday urged Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Rana KP Singh to the provide copies of the Bills, the State Government is going to table in the coming session, well “in advance”.

The party MlA from Dakha and the leader of Opposition HS Phoolka has shot off a written communique to the Speaker with the request of providing the copies of bills so that the member of the opposition parties can study the bills and participate in discussions.

The budget session of the assembly is expected to be held this month, as the new government had, in the month of March, passed the Vote-on-Account for three months.

Phoolka, in his letter, said that in the previous Vidhan Sabha session, the law Officers’ Bill was tabled and passed by the government but in the absence of copy of the Bill, the members of opposition parties were not able to participate in the discussion regarding the Bill.

As per the rule 115 of Vidhan Sabha working law, the Government is bound to provide the copy of any bill to be tabled in Vidhan Sabha 15 days before but it was not followed in the case of law Officers’ Bill.

Phoolka said the Government was going to table many important bills in the Vidhan Sabha in the coming session so it was necessary to provide the copies of bills well in advance to the opposition so that the members could study and participate in the discussions regarding these bills. AAP MlA expected that the Speaker will look into the matter and safeguard the rights of the member of opposition parties.
