Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday slammed the Capt Amarinder Singh Government for sleeping over the rising incidents of drug addiction, especially among the youth in the state, leading to deaths due to over doze.
“Post the incident of 13-year-old girl from Rama Mandi allegedly into drugs, more cases have come to light from the border districts of Gurdaspur, Ferozepur and Tarn Taran, where three youths have died of drug over doze,” said party’s Punjab core committee chairman and MLA Principal Budhram and state youth wing president Manjinder Singh Sidhu, in a joint statement.
They said that on the one hand, farmers were subjected to commit suicides, youths were shoved into drugs on the other due to the anti-people policies of the government in the saddle.
AAP leader said that like his predecessors - the Badals, Capt Amarinder was following in their footsteps when it came to stamping out the menace of drugs from the state eating out the vitals of the state.
Budhram said that Capt Amarinder and the entire Congress leadership in the state should appear before the Takht Damdama Sahib at Talwandi Sabo and apologise to the people of Punjab and the panth for reneging on the promise of stamping out the menace of drugs and send the drug lords behind the bars within four weeks after assuming power.
He said that instead of containing the menace rampant in the state, it had aggravated and touched a new high, if the upswing in the cases of deaths due to drug over doze were any indications, he said.
Sidhu appealed to the people of the state, especially the younger and educated lot, to corner those who backtracked on the promises on taming the drug lords, addressing unemployment and other issues, when they come to them for votes.
AAP asks govt to order immediate resumption of int’l flights from Amritsar to Birmingham
Chandigarh: Expressing deep shock and anguish over the decision on part of the Air India for diverting the Delhi-Amritsar International air flights from Delhi International Air Port, AAP on Tuesday demanded immediate restoration of the flights to save the passengers from unmerited harassment meted out to them due to laxity of the government.
The government should mull over introducing international flights from Amritsar and Chandigarh to the countries like America, Canada, Australia, Dubai, Singapore, Malaysia, South Arabia, and other European countries of the world,” said AAP MLA Jair Kishan Rori.
He said that the beneficiaries had to suffer under the pulls and pressure of a strong Airport mafia due to which the Amritsar-Birmingham flights from Amritsar International Airport from Amritsar had to stay inoperative for almost eight years in spite of the fact that the flights were running successfully and without any hindrance.
Rori, also the party’s NRI wing chief, accused the Narendra Modi-led Government at the Centre of colluding with the high-profile Airport and other mafia operators.
“While the Airport Authority of India has admitted that the air flights between Amritsar and Birmingham had proved to be a boon for the passengers, the flights are discontinued on March 27 in the aftermath of the airstrike at Balakot. Even as the situation has normalized, the flight has not resumed by far,” he alleged.
