AAP condemns violence by ruling alliance, urges Badal for peace

Strongly condemning violence “unleashed by the workers of ruling alliance” in Punjab, the Aam Aadmi Party on Tuesday urged the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to maintain law and order.

Besides, the party has also demanded that the Chief Minister should not let the workers of the alliance “to indulge in violence against the justice-loving people of Punjab”.

Citing series of incidents of  attack on the AAP workers and supporters, AAP’s senior

member Prof Manjit Singh on Tuesday asked the ruling SAD-BJP regime “to learn lessons from the anger of the people of Punjab expressed in voting pattern instead of adopting brutal and repressive measures to

muffle their voice”.

Prof Manjit said: “The ruling alliance of SAD and BJP has failed to understand the revolt of people of Punjab against them as witnessed during recent parliament elections. Instead, many of the SAD workers have come down to attack AAP workers out of sheer frustration and some of the AAP workers have been attacked with intent to murder.”

He cited “recent example” of “murderous attack” on Balwinder Singh Kumbhra and his two sons by Akali workers in Kumbhra village (Mohali’s Sector 68). Besides, he pointed that attack on Kartar Singh of Jalalabad village in Patiala, who was seriously injured along with other two relatives on the polling day, April 30.

“Kartar Singh was immediately admitted to PGI at Chandigarh where he got more than 10 stitches on the scalp. He is still awaiting his operation at the PGI. Culprit Kuldeep Singh is yet to be booked under section 307 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC),” said Prof Manjit.

He said that the newly-elected Patiala MP Dr Dharamvira Gandhi was also not spared during the elections.

“Such attacks started much earlier during the AAP started its campaign. Malvinder Singh Mali, a school teacher and a social activist, faced a brutal physical attack on April 10, while he was coming back in a bus from his duty near Roopnagar. luckily, he escaped and a complaint was registered to Roopnagar SSP,” added Prof Manjit. He said that another “murderous attempt” was made on Mali during which he suffered a serious fracture on the arm.

“FIR no. 53 was registered at police station Rural Roopnagar on April 26, and till now, no culprit is arrested,” he added. AAP member pointed that Mali suspected that the attack has the State Education Minister’s backing “as the victim was vocal against corruption prevailing in purchase of library books, science kits and impersonation in examination for the driver of the Education Minister.”
