Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday dubbed both Capt Amarinder Singh-led Congress Government in Punjab and Narendra Modi-led BJP Government at the Centre as “cheats” and are two sides of the same coin who failed to live up to the poll promises made to the farmers.
“During the run up to the Gurdaspur Parliamentary by-poll, AAP would reach out to each and every household in the constituency to expose the double speak of both BJP and the Congress who deceived the poor farming community only to get their votes and later left them high and dry,” said AAP’s Punjab unit president and Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann.
He said Modi Government had completed nearly three and a half year at the Centre but it failed to implement the recommendations of the Swaminathan Commission report which the BJP had promised so vociferously in 2014 lok Sabha polls.
“Rather, Modi Government not only has taken a complete U-turn on the implementation of the Swaminathan commission report, but also ignored the large number of suicides being committed by the farming community all across India as they fail to get reasonable rates for their agriculture produce,” he added.
Similarly, before coming to power, Capt Amarinder’s party went to each household in Punjab and given written assurances to the farmers and labour farm that their outstanding agricultural loans would be waived off once the Congress came to power including those of public sector banks, cooperative banks or with the commission agents, said Mann.
He added immediately after taking oath as Chief Minister, Capt Amarinder completely forgot and ignored the promise he made to the Punjab farmers.
Mann said AAP would expose the lies and the fake poll promises Capt Amarinder and Modi Government made to deceive the poor farmers only to gain power.
AAP’s Kisan Sammelan in Kotkapura today.
To expose the betrayal and discrimination by both the Centre and various state governments in the name of debt waiver with the farmers and the farm labourers all across the country, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will hold a massive ‘Kisan Sammelan’ in Kotkapura on Wednesday.
AAP’s Punjab unit president and Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann, the leader of Opposition in Punjab Vidhan Sabha and Bholath MlA Sukhpal Khaira, Faridkot MP Prof Sadhu Singh and alliance partner and head of the lok Insaf Party (lIP) Simarjit Singh Bains and many senior leaders of the party will lead the Kisan Sammelan.
AAP MlA and the Farmers’ and Farm labour Sangharsh Committee convener Kultar Singh Sandhwan said that farmers and the farm labourers were being treated as second-class citizens in their own country. “They are being forced to end their lives as they were subjected to the anti-farmer and anti-agricultural policies introduced by the successive governments all over the country,” he said.
“AAP will expose the big betrayal and discrimination of both the BJP and the Congress governments with the farmer sector in its Kisan Sammelan being organised on Wednesday at Kotkapura,” he added.
