Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday asked the Congress-led Punjab Government to make the report of Special Task Force (STF) public if it was sincere on the drug problem.
Lashing out at the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh for failing to crackdown on the issue of rampant drug trade in the State and pretending to be benevolent to the people by using different tactics, AAP MLA from Barnala and youth wing state president Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer said that the Chief Minister had reneged on his promise to eradicate drugs, made by holding Sri Gutka Sahib before the elections.
“Political willpower is needed more than any new policy to eradicate drugs. The Captain government has been holding the Akalis responsible for this drug trade for a long time, but is refraining from taking any action against them. In fact, the Akalis and the Congress are running a drug business in the state together, forcing Capt Amarinder not to take action against them,” he added.
Hayer said that Capt Amarinder, who was talking about formulating a national policy on the issue of drugs, should explain what happened to the coordination committee already formed in the north region.
“No meeting of this committee has ever been held. If Capt Amarinder Singh was sincere about this matter, the report given to him by the STF should be made public,” he said.
Taking a dig at Capt Amarinder about the deaths due to spurious liquor in Punjab, Hayer said that he should tell what action he had taken so far on the spurious liquor factories busted in his district.
“In fact, Capt Amarinder himself is backing the drug smugglers and his own advisers are involved,” he alleged.
