Aam Aadmi Party on Friday raised a slew of questions over the acquittal of former police cop and drug lord Jagdish Bhola and SAD leaders-Manjinder Singh Aulakh and Jagjit Singh Chahal in a multi-crore drug racket case.
The party not only targeted the Badal family, but also came down heavily on Punjab Congress chief Capt Amarinder Singh.
AAP minced no words to accuse the Badals for “pressurising Punjab cops” for weakening the case against Bhola and the State Cabinet Minister Bikram Singh Majithia’s close aides to enable their acquittal by the Court.
Demanding an impartial probe in the drug-racket by sitting Judge of the HC, the party categorically said that police’s soft investigation in the drug-racket was to save Majithia.
“If Punjab cops would continue its probe, the accused would be acquitted in all cases pending against them,” said AAP’s Campaign Committee chairman and Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann.
Mann, accompanied by Faridkot MP Prof Sadhu Singh, said: “How can free and fair probe be expected from the police which comes under Home Minister Sukhbir Badal, whose brother-in-law Bikram Singh was also named in the case by key accused Jagdish BholaIJ”
“We have full faith in the judicial system, but the Court is deciding the case on the basis of evidences produced by the police, which directly comes under Sukhbir, jijaji of Majithia,” AAP MPs said.
They said that if the probe had been handed over to the CBI at its initial stage, the fate of case against Bhola and others would have been different.
Mann accused Punjab Congress chief for supporting Majithia by rejecting the demand of CBI’s probe against him.
“Captain owes an explanation why he objected to the CBI probe in drug racketIJ” said Mann. He claimed that the key reason of police’s soft investigation in the drug-racket was to save Majithia, as the key accused has already named Majithia’s involvement in the drug-racket.
“Perhaps, it would have been the first time, when an accused, who admitted his involvement in the drug racket was acquitted by the Court, that too due to police’s failure to submit ample evidences against them,” he added.
