Haryana Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Anil Vij on Wednesday said the existing sports policy of the State was being amended due to loopholes in the policy of the previous Government. He asked sports academies and committees of the State to get themselves registered under new Registration Act.

Addressing a meeting organised for the formulation of Sports Policy-2015, he said to bring complete transparency in the sports arena, appropriate steps need to be taken so that children of families of economically weaker sections could be able to exhibit their sports talent.

Besides this, the department would also encourage traditional sports. The department would form parameters to honour coaches along with sportspersons so that every year the coaches performing excellently would be awarded. Refrees, umpires and sports judges giving a good performance would also be covered under the award scheme of sports policy, he added.

The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretaries, Sports Department, KK Khandelwal, Education Department, Vijayvardhan, Finance Department, PK Das, Police Department, OP Singh along with and other senior officers of other departments.

The Sports Minister said that on the pattern of Bar Council and Medical Council in the State, formation of ‘Sports Council of Haryana’ is also being considered. This Council would look into all the matters relating to sports. He said that the State Government is exploring all possibilities to encourage sports at all levels by dividing it into three levels; high, medium and low.

Vij said after getting job under sports quota in Haryana, players often deviate from their aim and their contribution towards sports becomes zero. This has been observed that the players lose interest in sports after getting Government job, which is lowering the level of sports in Haryana. After getting employment, such players are distracted from sports and not even prepared others for sports.

He said though the previous sports policy was not in favour of the sports yet some of the parts of that policy were also not fully implemented. The preservation of sports complexes under PPP mode as prescribed under the precocious policy was not followed, he added. In this regard, organisations or corporations which intend to adopt sports stadia would be welcomed.

This would increase the use of sports stadia and there would be sports friendly environment in the State. He said that only those players would be given stipend who would train on the sports field.Giving suggestion in the meeting, Additional Chief Secretary, Finance, PK Das said that there is a need to promote sports among players even after they were given jobs and they should work to encourage children towards sports activities. This way the children would consider them as their role models and would eagerly follow their footsteps.
