Sixty-eight-year-old Jat leader from Haryana and former Congressmen, Chaudhary Birendra Singh’s induction in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Government on Sunday, marked a happy turn in his long political career after he switched loyalties to the BJP.

Birender, who had joined BJP ahead of Haryana Assembly election after spending more than four decades in the Congress, has sworn-in as a member of Council of Ministers in Modi’s Government. With his induction as a Cabinet Minister, Haryana now has three Ministers in the Union Government. The other two Union Ministers in the Modi Government from Haryana are Inderjit Singh and Krishan Pal Gujjar.  “My stand has been vindicated,” said Singh, immediately after getting Cabinet berth.

Singh belongs to Jind district and all his party-men and followers, celebrated Singh’s elevation on Sunday. It is being speculated that Birender Singh will get ‘Agriculture’ ministry in Modi’s Government. When asked, Singh said, “It is up to Modi ji, however, people of the State has got their representation now in the Union Ministry.”

Singh had joined BJP, after leaving his 42 years old association with the Congress party, under forcible circumstances, before Assembly elections 2014 in Haryana. The former Congress in-charge for many States — ttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh besides member of apex body of Congress’ CWC and chairperson of many Parliamentary standing committees, Singh’s elevation as a Central Minister in the UPA-II was scuttled at the eleventh hour by vested interests. BJP has not only rewarded Chaudhary Birender Singh with Cabinet ministry but his wife Prem lata had also become MlA from Uchana Kalan in BJP Chief Minister Manohar lal Khattar’s Government in Haryana.
