Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij on Monday said the shortage of 500 doctors in the State would soon be solved with fresh recruitment. He said 95 new doctors have already been issued appointment letters.
Talking to reporters after making a surprise inspection of the Kalpana Chawla Medical College and Hospital in Karnal, Vij said in 34 hospitals which did not have any, doctors from other hospitals had been posted. In some hospitals, the newly recruited doctors would be posted.
Vij said a proposal for recruitment of para-medical staff on ad hoc basis was under consideration. Staff working in the Department of Birth and Death Certificates has been posted at different places. Deputation of 100 doctors has been cancelled and they have been called back to serve in their own State.
Many doctors who were serving at prime locations for long have been posted in the field.
Vij said the previous Government had issued licences to some undeserving nursing institutes which were giving admission to the students and issuing them certificates to enable them to get jobs even though they knew nothing about the job. "The matter is being enquired," he added.
Speaking on death during delivery, he said such cases would be investigated. He directed the officials to issue birth and death certificates within a week. “I have my eyes set on the issue of proxy attendance and it will be dealt with in a strict manner”, he added.
Vij reached the hospital unannounced and thoroughly examined the attendance register. The moment Civil Surgeon, Dr. Vandana Bhatia, introduced herself, the Minister asked where she was. She replied that she was in her office which is located at Redcross Bhawan Mall Road. Not satisfied with her answers, Vij ordered her transfer with immediate effect.
